Kyleakin Road

The Cuillins

January 2, 2017 by John Gorevan 9 Comments

51-53 Kyleakin Road, Thornliebank, Glasgow. G46 8DE. Tel: 0141 638 3705.

Cuillins. 1991.

Cuillins opened in 1965 in a housing scheme in Arden. Proprietor Richard Lemon was not new to the licensed trade as he formerly owned the Lemon Tree bar in Parliamentary Road which closed its doors for the last time in August 1964 due to the redevelopment in the area by the City Council.

The new bar derives its name from the picturesque Cuillins range of mountains on the isle Skye. The pub is situated on Kyleakin Road which is also the name of a community on Skye. One of the features of the bar was a sunset mural showing the Cuillins of Skye fronted by the Minch.

The bar counter was of oak panels and sheet copper with white sculptured walls. The seating accommodation was upholstered in green and the chairs in black.

One of the features of the bar is the mural of the Cuillins of Skye. 1965.
