The Cathadhmara was famous in it’s day for the Big Jazz Band, the Jimmy Alston Band, some of the musicians are still playing to this day (2015) in and around Glasgow. The band also play in Trader Joe’s, Hope Street. Thanks to Robert Davidson.
The Cathadhmara became the Mardi Gras Nightclub.
The Mardi Gras was the first night club to have a elevated dance floor in the U.K.
A friend of Mr Modlin, night club owner James Mortimer had the first elevated dance floor in his Tito’s night club in Majorca.
The restaurant was called the Food Basket.
Both the night clubs were closed down as the building above was supposed to be unsafe??????
In the News 1972…
The Cathadhmara restaurant in Glasgow, which is one of the most popular niteries in the city, are introducing a discotheque night on Mondays from next week.
The man who will be spinning the discs is John McAleer, and the night starts at 8 p.m. and runs through till 11.30 p.m. Admission is 30p and this includes a free supper. You can’t get much fairer than that.
