we lived in the tenement above the widdows and we thought our address was 20 vicarfield st.in the 1940s there was still gaslight in the landings and in the flats,no power.many years later in my late teens I joined the masonic lodge round the corner in st columba s church and we would meet in the widdows to have a whisky or two before the meeting,as there is a play on the masonic myth of founding by “the widows son”
