Our First Golfer of the Month

Aberdeen publican Stanley Hay.

Aberdeen Golfer of the month 1974

Mr. Stanley Hay, owner of the Masada Bar, Aberdeen, is our first “Golfer of the Month.” He is seen here (centre) being presented with a bottle of Asbach by Mr. Adam Scott, Northern Area manager, Peter Thomson (Perth), Ltd. July 1974.

Aberdeen publican Stanley Hay is the first S. L. T. A. Chairman of the Year’s “Golfer of the Month.”

Stanley, owner of the Masada Bar, took the June award with his winning round in Aberdeen Licensed Trade Association’s competition for the J. Begg Quaich at Aboyne Golf Club.

Our first “Golfer of the Month” finished with a net 60 (84-24). “It was just one of those rounds when everything came off for me,” he said. Stanley’s score was five under the Standard Scratch Score for the course, the same as the runner-up, Nigel Pugh, of the Blue Blazer, Edinburgh. Playing in an Edinburgh Licensed Trade Assistant’s Golf Club outing at Gullane No. 1 course, Nigel had a great round of 66 (74-8).

The title went North, though, as Stanley had the better inward half. Apart from the title, Stanley wins a bottle of Asbach brandy donated by the S. L. T. A. Chairman himself, Hans Helmut Asbach, through his Scottish agents, Peter Thomson (Perth) Ltd., and six golf balls from the “National Guardian.”

It’s not too late for you to pick up these prizes. The prizes are on offer this month (August) and also in September to the competitor in officially organised licensed trade competitions who returns the lowest net score against the Standard Scratch Score.

As the competition is open only to licensee who are members of the Scottish Licensed Trade Association, it means, in fact that you could win the award without actually winning the outing/competition to which your card refers.
