The pub at the corner of Nisbet street park head was known as the ‘daft shop’ for a number of reasons.
1 They used to play peever in the bar
2 The rag man Peter McInulty used to take his horse in for a pint
3 No women allowed – apart from the cleaner however she had to leave before opening time and often stood in the off sales with her post work cuppa.
My da was in charge of the daft shop
Turns out it used to be my granny and grandads pub back in the day. I heard a lot of stories about the horse in the pub.
