The Beacon. 1991.
The Beacon was opened in the summer of 1973. Ushers the brewers invited John Greig, captain of Rangers F.C., and Billy McNeil, captain of Celtic F.C. It was a tradition to have a celebrity to pull the first pint, in this case Mr H Inglis, managing director of Ushers had two famous footballer do the honours.
John Greig and Billy McNeil pulling the first pints.
The Beacon was to become one of the worst pubs in Glasgow. The pub was well-known by police. The pub lay empty for a few years before it was demolished around 2003.

Rubbish, My husband from Canada and myself , originally from Bankend St ( yeah, that one); spent many a great hour in the Beacon when visiting my Mum in Crossbank Terrace, Toryglen. My husband LOVED it.! Everyone was so kind, even the taxi drivers who went there would pick him up on his sightseeing walks and drive him for free. A lady borrowed a tenner from him and spent twenty trying to catch up with him to repay. And she did, with a wee gift, still we have it. I WONDER WHO WRITES THIS STUFF.
Mid to Late 90s a guy came in with a sawn off to shoot the place up. It misfired and one of the old regulars cracked him over the back of the head with his crutch. The shooter then took a kicking from most of the pub goers and was left in the middle of the road. No idea what happened to the gun but he never came back to ask for it. Was a tough pub but good laugh at times.
