The Mardi Gras was the first night club to have a elevated dance floor in the U.K.
A friend of Mr Modlin, night club owner James Mortimer had the first elevated dance floor in his Tito’s night club in Majorca.
The restaurant was called the Food Basket.

This was thee place in town to be seen. Footballers rubbed shoulders with ordinary people in the 1980s. Long queues of disco goers lined up Dunlop Street and if you didn’t get in you would try and get into next-door Warehouse disco.
The Mardi Gras was the first nightclub in the U.K. to have an elevated dance floor, it was also the first to allow under 18’s in, however this was later on in the late 80s.
Both the night clubs were closed down as the building above was supposed to be unsafe??????

In 1991, I hired the club to hold the first of 2 Wet Wet Wet Fan Conventions in the city. Mr Mackie was the manager i dealt with. It was a brilliant night, and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful. Terrific sound system and dance floor, I just wish I had more photos of the interior. Such a shame it closed.
The Mardi gras was. The best dancin in the toon! Since I was 13 I’d go to the unders then right back into the overs cos I was with the “aulder mob”! To be fair even though it was a pure gang hut you still had a great night. One of my fondest memories. Full of disco biscuits and jellies 🤪😍🥳 great days
