Have just come this old advert for the 101 restaurant in Hope Street, Glasgow. It brought back wonderful memories of elegance, good food …. Saturday night Dinner Dances! I loved the ambience of the restaurant , the dance floor with the tables set around and the live band ….. just wonderful! My husband and I are now in our early 80s but still manage a monthly Dinner Dance at the Cally Palace Hotel in Gatehouse; one of the last refuges of the old days.

I remember when I was very young, being taken there on numerous occasions by my father – it certainly was the top location in Glasgow to go for dinner – absolutely superb. I am now 74 so it was a long time ago.

Had our wedding reception there in 1971. Pleasant memories.

I have a wooden bell boy small statue from the 101. It is really nice and gives me an idea of what it would have been like

My parents, went to the One O One on special occasions. Mostly the birth of a new healthy baby.
Mum told the story of their last visit after number 7.
This was 6 months before the lot of us migrated to Australia.
The tale is of a wonderful evening. Delusions food, and lots of dancing to the band.
When the evening came to an end, dad paid the cheque and the waters only charged them €1,00 for the whole evening.
They were 40, and 42. Taking their 7 across the world.
The waiterest thought them super brave.
And she was right. They certainly were!
