Aragon, 1980s.
This is quite a new pub, opened around 1970. It was formerly a butchers shop. Very popular bar in the West End. Student flock here in there droves from the nearby University.
In the good weather seats and parasols are placed outside where locals can enjoy a nice glass of wine or whatever takes your fancy and watch the traffic going by.

You state this opened in1970 but I can definitely recall drinking in in 1968. Can you help square this?
Jim Connor says
I’m sure in the late 60s on Saturday nights there were queues outside both The Aragon and The Byre which was the bar of the Reo Stakis Steakhouse Restaurant almost across the road. I think they both opened pre 1970 with The Rubayait well established before them both. I think I’m right in saying that this triangle of shop units were historically and still indeed are the only ones ever granted public house licences in the 3 tenement blocks between the bottom of the original University Avenue and the corner of Highburgh Road where the bank was.

Richard Jones says
The Aragon was open in 1964, probably earlier.
