The exterior to the premises looks as if it’s been here since Baillie himself was born. A lick of paint and a few touch up for the signs would make a lot of difference.
The pub is relatively small, pool table to one side and tables to the other. The bar is quite high but everything was pretty plain. After the fire there was nothing really extravagant installed in it’s refurbishment. There is a couple of TVs with Sky Sports playing as well as music playing in the background. There is a jukebox that you can choose your songs. The pub was kept clean and the bar staff were wizzing around cleaning up when they had a chance. There was also free Wi-fi in the pub.
The bar staff (Liz Kennedy) and customers were very nice and friendly and loved having a gab at the bar. Everyone in the pub liked to join in on the banter and everyone was in good spirits.
The owner of this pub (Steven McGowan) also owns the Real McCoy at London Road, that recently won pub of the year.
Trophies decorate the far right wall from the winners of their local domino players.
The toilets smelled a quite a bit and was in need of deep clean.
There is a smoking area at the back of the pub, leading to an outside patio area. Not very many pubs have smoking areas this nice in the area.
All in all, this is a great wee pub. I will most definitely return to this pub because of the warm reception. Liz has told us that the pubs is due for a revamp soon, we will look forward to it. Many thanks to Liz for taking the time to answer our questions.
