END.
Before it was Bilko’s it was called The Gowdoc and was a more traditional Glasgow pub. This would be from the 60s until about (I guess) late 80s. I was told the name came from the two owners Gow & Docherty. It was the same layout as Bilko’s, the bar to the left up a couple of steps from the pavement and the lounge to the right downstairs. The bar was a long narrow affair with seating and narrow fixed tables to the left and the counter on the right. The lounge was downstairs and was quite big and had lots of seating. You came downstairs into the lounge turned to the right and then down another couple of steps and the counter was situated at an angle on the right. The bar also had an off sales licence section which was basically a cubby hole through to the bar which you accessed immediately upon entering the stairs down to the lounge. Latterly, they removed some seating to the left as you entered the lounge and built a darts area. There was a connecting internal stairway from the lounge to the bar (for staff use only!). 🤣
