One hard pub – a real Celtic shop back in the 80’s when I worked there – and full of hard men and young up and comers.
Great team of staff and some great punters – mind it going mental in 86 when Celtic won the league (or Haerts bottled it ) – p[ub shut before 7 that nbight with riot police everywhere and all the windows smashed, straff getting logged in teh cellar and so on.
Next morning, all cleaned up and open again at 12:30
Worked there in the 70s. John Mitchell was the manager. His brother Davy also worked there. And the Guinness maestro – Martin.
Mixed bar and seldom any trouble. Certainly less than the Parkway next door.
Excellent bar. It was a struggle to get near the bar on a Saturday at lunchtime. Staff were superb.
Police informer Rab McNeilage was a weed that ran around the area. A skinny weed who was always tooled up taking liberties. Big Joe Siels was actually the main man around there.
